The English Language Arts curriculum celebrates creativity, the joy of engaging with stories, playing with language, and working with a variety of texts. What if, in a literature circle format, students were invited to self-select, read and respond to a set of differentiated texts, while playing with concepts and big ideas that live across the curriculum? Inspired by Faye Brownlie’s Grand Conversations, ideas will be shared for how we can invite our Grades 2-5 learners to become active, independent, and thoughtful readers in a literature circle format.
